Director and screenwriter Shyam Benegal is today considered the father of the ‘New Wave’ in Indian cinema. With a career spanning 50 years, his documentaries as well as his features are the work of a highly accomplished and deeply humanitarian filmmaker, unflinching in his critique of sexual and social inequality.
